It makes me angry that I have to do this, but I’m going to do it anyway. Last week at Denver Comic Con, I went to a panel on women and body image in comics that I had very high hopes for. It was modded by the same woman who’d modded the very excellent Geek Girl panel earlier that day, and had two…
Well shoot. I decided not to go to this for a variety of reasons (tired from line-standing, didn’t recognize the pannelests, once you’ve seen one with Gail Simone you’ll only be let down, etc.) but this is too bad.
What a waste of time. Gross.
Family friends are coming over. And by coming over I mean evacuating. And by evacuating I mean running like hell. They had time to pack, so that’s good. They have two huge dogs, and that’ll be neat.
Reminder to anyone near the fires: what seems ridiculous in the morning might seem threatening in the afternoon and could be terrifyingly certain come evening.
My home town is on fire again.

Okay this is totally not against anyone who is going to see The Purge (Because lbh most of you are seeing it because it looks **scary** and not for its cinematic quality) but it looks so fucking stupid LMAO.
It’s like trying to take a social commentary piece and throwing it in with some thriller…

Even if you don’t think vaccines and autism are related … these are some staggering numbers!
YES THESE NUMBERS ARE STAGGERING I WOULD ALSO POSIT THAT HAVE YOU CONSIDERED THESE IMAGES AND TEXT ALSO

And seriously, vaccines are meant to prevent deadly diseases. So even if vaccines did cause autism (which they don’t), you’re saying you’d rather your child have diseases that killed hundreds of thousands of children before vaccines than to be autistic. Autism is worse than the death of a child to you. Congratulations, you’re a douchecanoe.
Wow. This post seriously pisses me off. Bashing someone because they are pointing out that vaccines COULD POSSIBLY be one of the causes to autism? You obviously have never witness any parent struggle with a kid that has autism. Or have a seemingly normal kid that’s perfect and suddenly starts to regress in functions they used to have.
Except that no, vaccines COULD NOT POSSIBLY be one of the causes of autism. At all.
The entire fantasy that there’s any autism-vaccination link comes exclusively from a single lunatic who conducted cruel, abusive experiments on children and on lab monkeys whose brains were already damaged at the time. His work was disproven thoroughly and with ease. He was a con man.
Like all disgruntled quacks, he took his “findings” to people who would listen; people who had nothing to do with science. He peddled his vaccine-autism conspiracy theory to the media wherever he could, and his bogus “discoveries” are especially lauded by Scientologists, who believe that all modern science and medicine is part of an evil scam controlled by space aliens to stop Scientology from “enlightening” the world.
So yes, anyone who “points out” a connection between vaccines and autism NEEDS to be bashed. It is a lie, and an asinine, completely batshit lie at that. It needs to be crushed out of our culture as aggressively as possible every single time it rears its ugly head.
And fuck you for characterizing autistic people as “imperfect,” “abnormal” or “regressed in functions.” Autism is not “damage.” Autism is not a “handicap.” Autism is not “stupidity” or “degeneration.” Autism is a different way of processes information that some people are born with to varying degrees.
You cannot “get” autism. You cannot be “made” autistic. It is not an injury or a contagion.
Basically you can go fuck yourself.
You know what number IS directly correlated to the amount of vaccines around?
The amount of kids dying from preventable illnesses.
As measles vaccines go up, there are less kids dying of measles!
As pertussis vaccines go down because of idiot fucking antivaxxers, THE AMOUNT OF KIDS DYING OF PERTUSSIS GOES UP!
Also, good to know that parents would rather have dead kids than people like me \o/
You cannot “get” autism. You cannot be “made” autistic. It is not an injury or a contagion.
THERE IS NO FUCKING “THIS” IMAGE LARGE ENOUGH
Relative to recent rant, so reblogging as a PSA.
Seriously. Vaccinate your kids.
Don’t forget to vaccinate yourself as well, if needed (upon consultation with a licensed medical doc)! There’s a pertussis booster that came out in the past few years that you may not have gotten.
Anyone talking that anti-vax quackery bullshit near me will get shut right the fuck down.
First off, Autism isn’t some horrible grievous deformation or disability that parents should fear to the point where they put their child (and EVERY SINGLE OTHER PERSON THEY ENCOUNTER since some kids are too young for certain vaccinations or certain people are at much higher risk for certain diseases and Typhoid Mary type shit is REALLY REALLY A LOT MORE COMMON THAN MOST PEOPLE THINK) at risk of some deadly diseases. It’s just a different way of processing information and interacting with the world. And if you think that is worth your kid (or mine, or my best friend’s twins) dying then you need to think long and hard about whether you are ready to have a child at all.
Second, vaccines have never been linked to autism in anything I’d consider a serious scientific study. I think you’re doing a bit of logical fallacy here, OP. there’s a LOT that’s changed since ‘88. More nuclear power, parents having children older, a lot of dietary and lifestyle changes, and then again there’s the simple fact that we know a lot more (and still very little at that) about autism so it’s diagnosed and recognized a lot more easily.
Your analysis only looks at the two variables of vaccines and autism rates. It bothers me because even though you are not saying it’s definitely a link, you aren’t taking into account how many hundreds of variables could also be affecting this statistic.
We can be friends if you vote differently than me. If you pray or eat or love or style your hair differently than me. If you like and dislike different things than me. Even if you don’t adore Dick Grayson more than anyone else in the history of the world ever.
But if you are anti vaccinations we are done.
cpt-edward-kenway:
Holy crap we need to fund this.
Be warned though, this is a world where Mr. Grayson was never adopted by Bruce Wayne and all sorts of differences arise because of it. I say this, even though it may be considered spoilers, because I got angry and frustrated and generally unhappy at how Un-Dick this Richard is. (I wanted to turn it off at the cigarette even.) But then I read the details and it made a lot more sense and now I am very excited about this thing. Oh man. So excited.
